Khabib Nurmagomedov could be stripped of his title after sparking a mass brawl when he defeated Conor McGregor.

The Russian fighter forced the Irishman to tap out in the fourth round after getting him in a rear-headlock.

Almost immediately after his win, chaos ensued with Nurmagomedov jumping out the cage, attacking McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis.

While fists were ferociously flying outside the Octagon, McGregor was punched in the face by one of Khabib’s teammates, with the situation eventually being de-escalated by security.

Khabib is set to meet with UFC commission to discuss the incident where fines or suspensions will be decided. They will also decide whether he will be stripped of the UFC Lightweight title he won.

Back in April, McGregor and a group of friends attacked a van containing Khabib and several other fighters following a media day.

Nurmagomedov says this a reason for his reaction after the fight: “He came to Brooklyn, he broke the bus and nearly killed two people. So why do people still talk about me jumping over the cage?”.

“He talked about my religion, my country, my father. This is a respectful sport. This is not a trash talking sport. I want to change this game. You cannot talk about religions and nations”.

Three members of Nurmagomedov’s team were arrested by authorities but were later released after McGregor declined to press charges.

McGregor has received a one-month medical suspension following the fight.

Afterwards, an unfazed McGregor said: “We lost the match but won the battle. The war goes on. I look forward to the re-match”.

UFC president Dana White expressed his disappointment in the chaos after the match:

“What Khabib should have done is pick Conor up, pull him up from the ground and hug him”.

“Even if you’re the biggest Conor fan ever, you have to respect it. Khabib won the fight, and he looked great doing it. He had the opportunity to walk out of that place a champion and look like a stud. It should have been a very different night”.

“I’ve been doing this for 18 years, and this is the biggest night ever, and I couldn’t be more disappointed… I’m not really mad, I’m just disappointed”.

Khabib’s father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov said expressed his disappointment in his son:

“I think for Khabib, the most severe sanctions would be my regard. I am going to regard this severely. I warned him. The most important thing is discipline. You can do whatever you want in the octagon, but beyond its barrier – this is the border separating civilians, there are children, women and bystanders.”.

“This fight took place within the octagon, that’s the spectacle. But I am categorically against fighting outside the octagon. Outside the octagon, you need to exist peacefully”.
